mitigations=off

#1 Post by dr-kart »

After all those ‘meltdown’, ‘spectre’, ‘Foreshadow’, CVE-2019-8912, Zombieload and “SACK Panic”
patched with recent kernels we(me) now have palpable performance drop on intel CPUs :eek:

Recalling dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/testfile bs=512 count=5000000 simple test from 2018
now I have 196 420 MB/s vs 1 Gb/s dropdown :bawling:

That's how I came up with idea to give a try 4.4 kernel instead. And with mitigations=off option for extra performance cases (i.e. gaming). But there's no 4.4 kernel in repo. Is there easy way getting antiX's or another 4.4 kernel? Dear community, I'd love to hear any tips (thoughts) on subject.

Edit: Actually it is ~50% performance drop now. And with mitigations=off boot option I could regain 1 Gb/s. So it doesn't really matter which kernel to use. Afaik all current LTS kernels have mitigations=off option.
