I need Blender 2.49b to be installed on MX-17.x, but can't find it's dependency for MX-17 (and Debian Stretch): Python 2.6.x
How to solve this task? Could be latest Python 2.6.x packaged for MX-17?
As I know there was PPA that provide Blender 2.4 and 2.7 packages which can be installed simultaneously.
Another way is compiling Blender 2.49b with Python 2.7.x, but I can't do it myself. I know that there is fork Blender-2.49-CAD-edition that already patched for Python 2.7
I requested it's developer to give me sources of Blender-2.49-CAD-edition (according GNU GPL), but he still not responded to my mail (as all downloads links broken on it's website).

Re: MX-17: How to install Blender 2.49b? Can't find Python 2.6
Have you tried its 64-bit tar.bz2 download? (the default one I get when I go to blender.org) It's a static binary that links to its own version of Python, and runs on my system after I extract the tarball and click on the blender binary.
Oh, wait, you want the really old 2.49b release! Ugh, that's gonna be a headache.

Re: MX-17: How to install Blender 2.49b? Can't find Python 2.6
As a workaround, you can install python-2.6.2 in Wine, and the Windows version of Blender 2.49b does pick it up, and the Wine app database has it as a Platinum program--which means it runs perfectly in Wine.
Re: MX-17: How to install Blender 2.49b? Can't find Python 2.6
I just tried - it launched, but UI interaction is too slow and mouse not work - it fully unusable!
On Stackexchange found next: Is it possible build Python 2.6.x ("python-2.6.9") as static linked library under MX-17 for use it with Blender 2.49b only?
Re: MX-17: How to install Blender 2.49b? Can't find Python 2.6
Maybe, but I really don't know how...there used to be something called pythonbrew that would do that for you, but I don't now if it's still maintained or running.
I wonder why it works well in Wine for me and not for you. Are you using our wine-staging from testing? Is this the first time you've set wine-staging up for anything?
Re: MX-17: How to install Blender 2.49b? Can't find Python 2.6
I use Wine AppImage + Blender portable package for Windows (with bundled Python 2.6)
