Can't Find ffmpeg <SOLVED>

#1 Post by rbeltz48 »

I have installed ffmpeg but I can't find it in any of the menus or the executable in the file system. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I believe the software is for the command line and doesn't have a gui.

I have it installed as well, doesn't show in the menu here either.

Code: Select all

locate ffmpeg
in the terminal will find it... the executable is usually in /usr/bin/

There are several GUI-frontends available, though, like winff and others,
that will show up in the menues, when installed.

That's all very interesting. When I install ffmpeg with Linux Mint it shows up in the Sound & Video menu. I installed winff and it now shows up in the menu. I guess that's the difference between Ubuntu/Mint and Debian/MX Linux. Thanks everyone for all your help!

Another way, if the executable is in your path, is to

Code: Select all

which ffmpeg

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8-Core, 16 threads)
Radeon HD 6570/7570/8550 / R5 230
Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 - driver: r8169
