My fastest response it to ask why you would want to do that. My second is to ask what repositories you need that are not provided.

If you want use the apt-add-repository command, you need to install software-properties-common

example: (as root) apt install software-properties-common

Asus Prime X570-Pro | AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
16 Gig DDR4 3600 | Radeon RX 5600 XT Graphics
Samsung 860 500GB SSDs (2)

But please note your avatar - "No PPAs".

PPA repos are generally for Ubuntu-based systems, not Debian.

The packages are not always compatible.
Desktop: Intel i5-4460, 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics
Clevo N130WU-based Ultrabook: Intel i7-8550U (Kaby Lake R), 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics (UEFI)
ASUS X42D laptop: AMD Phenom II, 6GB RAM, Mobility Radeon HD 5400

Reading this old post - also noticing that you are currently online
can one, in fact, add a PPA Repository to MXLinux?

I have tried in the past, but have failed.

Code: Select all

$ inxi
CPU: Quad Core Intel Core i5-4570 (-MCP-) speed/min/max: 1393/800/3600 MHz
Kernel: 4.19.0-6-amd64 x86_64 Up: 1h 12m Mem: 2396.7/11948.8 MiB (20.1%)
Storage: 1.39 TiB (10.4% used) Procs: 230 Shell: bash 5.0.3 inxi: 3.0.36

from the wiki

it is heavily discouraged
Use of PPAs in MX Linux
Our policy is that we discourage installing Ubuntu packages on MX Linux as it can (and has) caused problems. However, MX Packagers can examine the components of the ppa to see if all their dependencies appear to be met, to look for anywhere Ubuntu and Debian have different names or locations for the libraries, and hunt for anything systemd related. So it would be prudent to ask them about particular repositories you are thinking of adding.
