If you are so inclined, I urge you to post this problem on the GnuCash Forum:

Hi Jerry,
I am so inclined and will certainly post the problem. The thought never even occurred to me that there was a gnucash forum. DUH! Thanks for pointing that out. If I can get this working, I'll modify my MX18 post here with the solution. All the best! Ron

GnuCash suggests these database related packages, but I don't think they'd affect your issue: libdbd-mysql, libdbd-pgsql, libdbd-sqlite3

Stevo, those packages I do not have installed. But I did write to Gnucash and hope somebody responds. Maybe there's hope to get it working yet. Thanks!

Final Update. I did hear back from Gnucash folks and it's simply not an easy fix. I give up. No way do I want to be friggin in the terminal experimenting with various packages with no guarantee they will work. I'll manually update prices and call it good.

I hope someday gnucash will have everything packaged and working without people needing to resort to the terminal. Sadly, yahoo finance throws obstacles in the way of the gnucash developers and I understand it's hard to keep up. If there was a reliable price quote that didn't change on a whim, it would be easy for the developers. Gnucash is a fantastic program. Thanks for the good feedback and help. Ron
