Calibre incompatible with Thonny IDE v.3 on MX-17

#1 Post by jpartridge »

Greetings.
I'm new here.
For +/- 2 years now I have MX-17 installed and working perfectly on an old Asus laptop.
However, recently I updated Python + Thonny IDE and Synaptics automatically uninstalled Calibre.
All my efforts to reinstall this last software were in vain.
I remember reading somewhere that the author of Calibre stated that he would not migrate the software to Python 3.
May this be the cause of the incompatibility? Is there anyway to bypass the issue and have both Calibre and Thonny 3 installed on MX-17?
(I've been using the machine to teach Python to someone and I will not, in any case, uninstall Thonny.)

Thank you in advance for any help or suggestion.

Code: Select all

sudo aptitude why-not calibre
should give the relevant information.
Python 2.x & 3.x can stay installed side by side with no issues, and I don't see anything in the Calibre dependencies that should be a problem..

You really don't need sudo for that "why-not" command, though.
