Basically what the topic title says.
Installed audacity with MXPI, it recommended that package, but I cannot find it in Synaptic (even looked in testing, nope).
Dunno if I need it or not, but I usually tend to install recommends.

Like the Pirate's Code, it's more of a suggestion or set of guidelines:
but I'll see if I can dig the package up.
Code: Select all
Suggests: ladspa-plugin
Re: Audacity recommends ladspa-plugin, can't find it
Oh, it's a virtual package provided by quite a few choices: https://packages.debian.org/stretch/ladspa-plugin

What does that mean? I have always been able to find the recommends/suggested/whatever in the repos :)

Re: Audacity recommends ladspa-plugin, can't find it
There are a lot of LADSPA (Linux Audio Developer's Simple Plugin API) plugins created by different developers. They all have different names, and perform different audio effects, but they all satisfy the dependency for ladspa-plugin. You can install any or all of them.
HP Pavillion TP01, AMD Ryzen 3 5300G (quad core), Crucial 500GB SSD, Toshiba 6TB 7200rpm
Dell Inspiron 15, AMD Ryzen 7 2700u (quad core). Sabrent 500GB nvme, Seagate 1TB

Re: Audacity recommends ladspa-plugin, can't find it
This is all very confusing to me..
My logic is going: it is telling me to install that package, so I need THAT particular package. And then it isn't there.
I'll just stick with the plain install I guess.

Any of those packages "Provides" ladspa-plugin, though there is not a separate real ladspa-plugin package. That's what makes it a virtual package in the apt system.
Using autotalent to autotune people seems pretty fun, for example.

My brain does this now:
But yeah.. thanks for explaining about the virtual thing. Maybe someone else will follow up on this thing. I'll just stick with the basic install

Not needed. I installed it for some very basic sound things, but thanks!
