System File Integrity & Debsums

#1 Post by NevilsStation »

I'm having a lagging problem and a windows guy (another forum) suggested

Code: Select all

sfc /scannow
I Searched and learned that

Code: Select all

demsums -s
and

Code: Select all

debsums -sa
should generate the same output in Linux.

I loaded debsums via the MX Installer.

When I ran it the output generated was 100's of files labeled "missing".

Since everything works but sometimes lags (it seems Browser-related, I've observed this in FireFox & Pale Moon) I'm not sure how to proceed.

WDYT, please?

Nice box.
Is there a reason why you are running the 4.14 kernel?
Seems like there would be benefits to using the 4.19 updated version?

Thanks for the info. The more capable people will be along in the morning to provide more help for your lagging problem. That box should fly!

I run the updates as they show up - is the change from 4.14 to 4.19 a special process?

I have another W520.

I'll load 18.1 on it then transfer my data.

That will make for a clean start.

Changing kernels is determined by the user. You can do it most easily with MX Package Installer (Popular Applications tab >Kernels), and general directions are available in the Users Manual Section 7.6.2
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox and Windows 10
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin
