It starts up fine, but when you flash something, it resets.

Are there alternatives to etcher? As far as I know rufus is Windows only, and unetbootin isn't in the repos.

search this forum for multibootusb ..other options have been mentioned before.
as to Balena etcher I'm not familiar enough with it capabilities so do not know if

Etcher is a nice GUI for dd.
dd-dump alternative already mentioned:
CLI:
dd-live-usb : preinstalled in MX.
GUI:
USB Image Writer : Pakage mintstick version 1.3.8+git20181009-1~mx17+1 from MX testrepo
UNetbootin : Version 655-1mx17+1 from MX testrepo
MX-Live-USB maker: preinstalled in MX
EDIT:
UNetbootin requires a preformated FAT32 and mounted USB stick.

Hi-

I have been using Etcher [.deb file (Github?) installed through Gdebi] with MX and antiX for months, as my flash drives sometimes don't want to load system snapshots through Live-USB maker or Unetbootin for some yet unknown reason. It works fast and has never failed.

The one issue I have with it, is that the drive is difficult to erase and re-format [not impossible] after using Etcher. Just re-using the same flash drive for Etcher only, works for me.

The last time I had success at removing the file system that Etcher creates, was through Gparted using MSdos option. Can't remember the details, but it is doable.

I use etcher appimage and it works well. But there is also mintstick that can be installed via MX package install test repo.
It will install a usb writer and usb formatter that should work well for you.
