Can iTunes music store be accessed through Linux?

#1

Post by WaltH » Sun Feb 10, 2019 1:31 pm

I have no real desire to be able to run iTunes on my computer, but I am a singer-songwriter and would like to be able to find out if my music is available in the iTunes store as I have had a couple of people ask about that. (It's no great loss to me if it isn't, but it would be nice to know one way or the other.) A quick web search tells me there is probably no easy way to access the iTunes store in Linux, but I thought before I tried the approach outlined in the article here https://andrewhickey.info/2014/12/03/ho ... -gnulinux/ (which I don't really think I want to do) I would ask if anyone else has found a way to browse the iTunes music store. Thanks.

not really. everytime someone gets itunes working with wine, they change itunes.

there is a possible backdoor...you buy the music on your iphone, and transfer the music from your phone to your PC. but I don't know exactly how that would work because I'm not real sure how apples store the music on the device.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

I've got two Windows users that I support who would jump ship to Linux if iTunes could be made to work reliably.

That's all kind of what I figured. I don't have ianything and don't plan to change that. My wife runs Windows, so perhaps I'll ask her to check.

For years now, there have been only 2 reasons to keep Windows:
iTunes and Rufus
GAFA-free zone

Can't Clementine do just about everything iTunes does?

For most people, yes. I wanted to be able to access the iTunes store to see whether my music is actually available for sale there. As far as I know, Clementine cannot do that.

No it can't do that but there are probably other sources to buy music from like Amazon or Spotify.

Seems odd to me that they could be selling your music there and you not know about it one way or the other.

As it's stated above, when people got the store working on Wine, Apple immediately broke it. They have a vested interest in penning their users in their walled garden.
