Ooops, you didn't know that? That is one big power tool out of the MX/antiX magic tool box :number1:
I am beginning to realize that MX/antiX have a lot of things to pull out of that magic hat with you magicians around!

But I thought maybe there is something I have missed, like taking a shortcut with mx-installer pointing it to the snapshot iso and to another disk for installation and kind of bypassing burning to the usb step. You never know what MX Tools are capable of!
Well, ...indeed there is something. You can boot from the (Snaspshot-)ISO and you can install from the ISO, to the system.
Works best if you have the ISO on one drive(disk) and you install onto the another.
If only one hdd/sdd is avaiable , this would work too with some further considerations to take into account
as some of the partitions the iso is booted from would be mounted. So it work best also in
this case if the partitions are already prepared and the GRUB-bootloader would be (if in BIOS-mode) installed into the partition (root-partition) of the new system to not get in conflict with any mount points on the disk.

...

Is this kind of like when you make a custom grub entry for an iso to boot it from a partition and well install it (if you choose to) on another one or another disk?

Is it to farfetched to think that some kind of modification can be made to mx-installer to add the functionality of installing a snapshot iso from the same currently running system, to a non-mounted , free partition of the same disk or to another disk? I am just speculating :bagoverhead:

Good and valid point. Not sure somebody have yet, thought about enhancing our toolbox in this sense. But in theory this kind of installation might be possible.

My knowledge of coding is zero, but thinking of the theoretical possibility of it makes me jump!

BTW, we removed mx-installer dependency in mx-apps so at least that meta-package won't get removed if you remove mx-installer.

Hi Adrian,

when you create a snapshot, mx-installer is necessary. mx-apps is a good meta-package for the mx-system-tools. A suggestion is to create a second meta-package, mx-install-apps and here you can bundle mx-installer, mx-snapshot, mx-iso-template, mx-remaster and mx-remastercc

When you deinstall mx-installer and the package depends on no others, the other remaster-tools kept in the system, but they are useless without the installer. When you have a separate meta-package for this you can put a question for removing those features at the end of the installation process.
for those with an eye for the finer details...
