Catfish nor Recoll find content on Dropbox [Solved]

#1

Post by danielson » Fri Feb 08, 2019 10:44 am

Catfish and Recoll easily find files but don't seem to be able to dig out content from these files located within Dropbox. :frown:
Wonder why?
Most are either .docx or .odt

I don't know how you have DropBox setup up, but catfish works fine for me on Dropbox folders.

Have Dropbox installed via MX Package Installer.

All files and folders are synced just fine.

I have no idea then why you'd have a problem with either. I assume your Dropbox folder(s) are in your /home/username; do they have some exclusion or protections set perhaps?

I am running catfish 1.4.7 (from the stable software on mxpi)... just in case you might be running a different version.

Actually, Recoll does get results from .pdf, .txt and .html
but not .docx and very few .odt (weird).

Is this the standard Stretch Recoll or the latest version just added to the test repo (1.24.5)?

Now you're talkin' Stevo!

Both .docx and .odt seem to be coming through just fine! Yes!!

Do you think something like that will eventually happen to Catfish too?

You are seeing one of the things we geeks need to monitor in MX. stevo and team are great at doing more than mere mortals are capible of doing; but they need input from the geekier folks to make certain things don't slip thru the cracks. The results here are very much like those achieved in a rolling release with much greater stability for the community. We watch each others backs... and suffer far fewer breakages. I personally am a huge fan of this approach; but I think it only happens in MX/antiX. They're "durn" (or d*mn) good here! :lipsrsealed: :footinmouth:
