Can't burn IMG file

#1

Post by Sparky » Fri Jan 04, 2019 2:51 pm

The built in USB writer looks for only ISO, but I need to burn an image to use on my raspberry pi. Is there an alternative?
I am used to etcher, but see it is not available in the repos.

Install K3b from the Stable Repo tab of the Package Installer.

The command line program dd-live-usb will write any file you want to a usb device. I suggest telling it the file you want to burn. It will find the usb device for you or give you a list if there is more than one:

Code: Select all

sudo dd-live-usb -f $IMG_FILE
Here is a sample session:

Code: Select all

$ sudo ./dd-live-usb -f LICENSE
Password:
===============================================================================
Starting dd-live-usb
===============================================================================
Only one target usb device was found sdd 15G UFD 3.0 Silicon-Power16G
Will use target device sdd
                 iso file LICENSE
            target device sdd

            iso file size        1 MiB
       target device size    15376 MiB
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ready to make a 'dd' live-usb on device sdd
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shall we begin?

Use 'r' to redraw, 'q' to quit

Etcher is usually run from the Electron version in the zip you get directly from etcher.io, too.

Simply rename this.img to this.iso and use dd-mode.

I have downloaded the latest Raspbian.img.

The archive manager has trouble with it it seems. It takes for ever, and when it is un-zipped, I try to open the .img with k3b, and it says the file cannot be opened.

So I tried renaming the .img to .iso, which took for ever, but still k3b could not open it.

I want to burn it to the SD card with mu USB to flash card adapter which has worked int he past with MX.

How can I unzip this so k3b can burn it?
Asus Prime 370X-Pro
AMD Ryzen 1600X (12 threads @ 3.6 GHz)

Samsung 960 NVMe SSD nvme0n1 P1-3=MX-18, P4=MX 18
1TB SSD sda1= Data, 2TB WD =backups
on-board ethernet & sound
