My only concern with xfce is its lack of Wayland support. In the coming years Wayland would become the default and xfce would be left behind. Anyway for now, I am look forward for xfce 4.14 that most likely would be coming out somewhere in 2019.

I have many distros, and a spread of DEs as a result: XFCE, KDE Plasma, Gnome, Budgie, Cinnamon, MATE
My main desktop is MATE but I also use Budgie, Cinnamon, Deepin, Gnome, KDE, LXDE, LXQT, Pantheon, Plasma, XFCE and Enlightenment. For daily use It's more the software you use than the DE - at least as long you don't want special tweaking.
Machine: Acer Aspire S5-371
CPU: Intel Core i3-7100U with 8GB RAM
MX-19 Beta-2 with Kernel 4.19.0-6

Me, too -- a few different distros, various installations, and here the DEs/WMs are Xfce, Openbox, Fluxbox, KDE Plasma, GNOME Shell, LXDE. For MX I've stayed with Xfce, though. I agree that "it's more the software that you use" because regardless of the desktop I'm using things like DoubleCommander, Geany, LibreOffice, vlc, etc.

Xfce has all I ever need. It's stable. The best thing about Xfce is that it just doesn't tick me off.
My feelings exactly. Especially that last part!

Since 5 years I thought Xfce is the one, supporting my style of navigation and office/graphic/web work flow. But after testing latest Gnome (3.30) with its new speed and respond, changed my mind. It removed the bothering of setup, what's available and where, (in my opinion) Gnome does one step better than Xfce. Its the search engine and community extensions. The advantage with Xfce, its lighter. Those two desktops, are the top.

Other desktops that seem to work well with MX, in my tests:

GNOME 3
Enlightenment 22, now in our main repo.
Cinnamon (3.8 is in the test repo)
Mate (1.20 is in stretch-backports)
KDE from the Package Installer, may need some appearance tweaks. Adding the NeptuneOS repo can get a newer version.

Plus most lesser known window managers, etc.
Is GNOME3 in some repo or should I install it manually from Terminal?

Can confirm that Cinnamon runs fine with MX. For a while I've made a test with cinnamon, gnome-terminal, gnome-screenshot, slick-greeter, mint-artwork, mint-backgrounds-tara, mint-themes and mint-y-icons. This gives you the complete LMDE pre-configured Cinnamon DE on MX. Looks exactly like Linux Mint. A perfect adaption to LM is possible when you replace standard apps with x-apps.
It's nice when you like LM. You have MX-Tools in the system and an antix-base. The best of three worlds?

No, I personally prefer Xfce-DE over the big cinnamon but all this is possible. The base is always the same. (Debian stretch). I like a little bit playing with repos and mixing systems.

I guess bloat is a matter of disk space and system specs. With KDE Standard installed I do not even know it is installed when in XFCE except when I access dolphin, kate or kwrite.
