how to upgrade from php 7.0 to php 7.2

#1 Post by pannet1 » Sun Nov 04, 2018 6:36 am

hi,

first and foremost, thank you so much for MX Linux community for the wonderful distribution. I am enjoying it everyday and it is my primary OS. I have come here from Fedora, Ubuntu, Bodhi, Elementary, Manjaro Deepin and many other in between.

I usually install or develop webapps locally before uploading to my LAMP server. One of the webapp https://firefly-iii.org/ i want to try .... mandates PHP 7.2 to run. Can you please let me know how to upgrade my PHP 7.0 version to 7.2 on MX Linux.

$uname -a
Linux home 4.15.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.15.4-1~mx17+1 (2018-02-23) x86_64 GNU/Linux

Ordinarily, we would have you make a Package request and one of our team would build an updated php package for MX-17. But since PHP is intensely web facing and likely to need somewhat frequent security updates it's probably safer to use the repository provided by the official debian PHP packager. Here is a link to the directions for doing so. n.b. MX-17 is based on debian-9 (stretch).

tim,

thank you so much. much appreciated. so basically if we go the debian way, we are mostly safe i guess. i will try it out and let you know the success (or failure).

cheers.
