MX-17.1: Should one use "irqbalance"? If so, on what types of hardware platforms?

@all:

I noticed that the irqbalance (https://github.com/Irqbalance/irqbalance) package is available in MX-17's (Debian's) repos.

Would anyone happen to know
  1. in combination with what hardware use of this package can be recommended,
  2. whether use of this package, from a dogmatic point of view, has the potential to endanger your system?
Regarding question #1, the answer given here: https://serverfault.com/questions/51380 ... n-hardware indicates that, unless you want to build a rather static, manually optimized system, use of irqbalance would always be advisable.

But I guess that if that was the whole truth, irqbalance would be installed in MX-17 by default.

Regarding question #2, I'd naïvely hope that irqbalance's ability to switch interrupt requests (IRQs) wouldn't mean that irqbalance could gain direct access to the data the processor is to deal with. I might, however, be completely wrong here. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks in advance for any answer, and a great weekend to all of you :number1:, Joe
