Lynx-like motions confuses me. Left and right are one direction!
Should have explaind:
with Left (<- arrow key) you go one dir up
with Right (-> arrow-key ) if your mc-"Cursor" is on a directory entry you go into this dir.
( which you can of course also with Enter)

You sad "Virtual File Systems: cpiofs, tarfs, sfs, extfs, ext2undelfs, ftpfs, sftpfs, fish".
How can I choose sftpfs or fish? I tried FTP-Connection, Shell-Connection and SFTP-Link, but it wont work.
ftp-Example: an CLI-ine. type
anomymous:
cd ftp://ftp.fau.de/mxlinux-packages/antix/stretch/

or with user:
cd ftp://ftpuser@fritz.box/

similar with sftp:
something like
cd sftp://user@ssh-server/dir
fish is similar ( don't have just now ssh testing with fish )

( To paste a URL into the cli: press Ctrl+Shift+V )

You can save the visited FTP/SFTP etc URLs by opening in the menu Visited Hotlist ( Ctrl+\ ) and save current.

I tried to connect my raspi over ssh with "cd fish://ipaddress" or "cd sftp://ipaddress" and it reports resource currently not available.
With Krusader no problem. May I did something wrong.

I would first check from the terminal command-line with sftp,
It certainly depends on how you authenticate and if you have your ssh-key's made available.
I might look into this ... later ... :turtle:
