Yes that solved it great, looks like the installer had a hiccup first time.

Getting grey hairs oops have that .
next joke, using example from the book " Getting started with mariadb sec.ed. written by daniel bartholomew 2015.

Code: Select all

CREATE USER `jan`@`localhost` IDENTIFIED BY `blabla`;
conform the book gives

Code: Select all

ERROR 1064 (42000): You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MariaDB server version for the right syntax to use near '`blabla`' at line 1
Is there a book that works, so i can learn and not need to ask everything here ?

Those backquotes are certainly wrong. This shall be read something with single quotes like (not tested):

Code: Select all

CREATE USER 'jan'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'blabla';
you might simplify without superfluous localhost to:

Code: Select all

CREATE USER 'jan' IDENTIFIED BY 'blabla';

Another excuse for you: They do often have typsetting issues in books with printing the right quotes correctly.
You simply need to be aware. You nearly ever only need for quoting single quotes 'or straight double quotes " within in linux and databses. Only in "some" special expert cases you might see single backquotes for open sub-shells like this `
