#1 Post by zorzi » Sun Jun 03, 2018 9:27 am

Hello,

Is there a way to replace MX default Libreoffice 6 with Libreoffice 5 from Debian repos ?

Thanks.

Well, you might convince the apt-package manager like this:

Code: Select all

## apt-repfereces: /etc/apt/preferences.d/debian-liberoffice.pref
##
## this will make apt to prefer debian's provided libreoffce
##
Package: libreoffice* fonts-opensymbol gir1.2-lokdocview* python3-uno uno-libs3 ure
Pin: release o=Debian,a=stable,n=stretch
Pin-Priority: 1001
to "downgrade" to debian libroffice version 5.2, if you have still installed libre office
just do an upgrade with the MX-Update or manually:

Code: Select all

# sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
To newly install libreoffce either use MX-package Installer (MXPI)
or this line-example for locale fr_FR:

Code: Select all

# sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install libreoffice-calc libreoffice-draw libreoffice-impress libreoffice-math libreoffice-writer libreoffice-l10n-fr libreoffice-help-fr
To go back to MX-provided libreoffice either remove /etc/apt/preferences.d/debian-liberoffice.pref
or comment out with '#"-hash comment sign the Package and Pin-lines.

There is an easier way. Users Manual, Section 5 concerns Software Management, and this question is handled in 5.3.2

Alt-F1
Ctrl-F
downgrade
Production: 4.15.0-1-amd64, MX-17.1, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 8 GB, Kingston SSD 120 GB and WesternDigital 1TB
Testing: AAO 722: 4.15.0-1-386. MX-17.1, AMD C-60 APU, 4 GB

Well, your answer is an answert to a "how to hold specific-package version" question!
The downgrad recommendation within the manual does not include upgrades,
e.g. security upgrades), as you hold a specific version!
It does also not provide answer of all the packages needed for LO in this example! You would need
to "hold" all packages related to LO! Otherwise you got a mixture of package version for LO
and dpotentially a lot of error messages.
I assume the manual need to be fine tuned a bit to reflect hold vs. replace source of packages!

There's always room for improvement! The Manual does not attempt to cover everything, as it states in the Introduction.

If op selects the metapackage libreoffice I believe everything will be downgraded.

libreoffice is a little more complicated than your average app, because its broken down into so many pieces.

if you want to drop it down, you can remove libreoffice-common, which will remove just about all the rest of the pieces. Then weed out anything left (maybe help files or dictionaries).

then apt-get autoremove to clear out some libs.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install -t stable libreoffice
will install libreoffice 5 from debian stable

then place this file in /etc/apt/preferences.d/libreoffice-pin which will force libreoffice to only update from the debian stable repo.

/etc/apt/preferences.d/libreoffice-pin

Code: Select all

Package: libreoffice*
Pin: release a=stable
Pin-Priority: 600

Package: ure
Pin: release a=stable
Pin-Priority: 600

edit*** just read fehlix's post...whoops  well, essentially the same thing, slightly different methodology.

Yes, both pinning methods work. Thanks.
