How to install LTS Nodejs

#1 Post by Biofobico » Mon Feb 05, 2018 7:07 am

Searching returns:

Code: Select all

$ apt-cache policy nodejs
nodejs:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 4.8.2~dfsg-1
  Version table:
     4.8.2~dfsg-1 500
        500 http://ftp.pt.debian.org/debian stretch/main amd64 Packages
Then I tried:

Code: Select all

$ curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_8.x | sudo bash -

Also considered installing from Debian Sid but being new to linux, I don't know if it is a good practice.
Thanks in advance.

Why not follow the usual procedure in Synaptic or on the command line:

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt install nodejs
[sudo] password for jb:

Because if I'm interpret correctly:

Code: Select all

$ apt-cache policy nodejs
nodejs:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 4.8.2~dfsg-1
  Version table:
     4.8.2~dfsg-1 500
        500 http://ftp.pt.debian.org/debian stretch/main amd64 Packages
it will install nodejs version 4.8.2 and not LTS Nodejs. which is 8.9.4.

As I stated on #1 post, I'm in doubt if it is good practice doing it.

So what is the Sid repo address? I went searching for it at the Debian's site, but found none.
