Scan2pdf error

#1 Post by Fornhamfred » Wed Jan 17, 2018 6:23 am

Scanning a document shows this error:
Error running unpaper: [image2 @ %x] Using AVStream.codec to pass codec parameters to muxers is deprecated, use AVStream.codecpar instead.
[image2 @ %x] Encoder did not produce proper pts, making some up.
Any suggestions please

This appears to have been a bug that the maintainer resolved https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=836582
However I have two machines with MX17 installed that show the same problem if clean up images is selected in page options. This does not occur if the option is not selected.
Does this need to be reported and if so how?

I assume you are running MX-15 or MX-16 since the MX-17 version of gscan2pdf is much newer than the one in the bug report you linked.

An update to gscan2pdf is now available in the main MX-15 repository. Check for Updates & it should show up. (The US, Italy, & Netherland mirrors have it already - other mirrors may not be updated yet).

No as I posted I have two machines both installed with MX17 with the same problem. The bug report shows that in theory the fault was resolved in 2016 but it has raised its ugly head again in version 1.6.0-5.

I have rebuilt version 1.8.0 for The MX-17 Test Repository. Use MX Tools -> Package Installer -> Full App Catalog -> MX Test Repo to try the upgrade.
Please let us know if it corrects the problem.

Thanks for doing that. Have tried out but still the same error.
I have tested Gscan2pdf with the same setting on Mint 18 and PcLinuxOS and both report the same error.

It might not be a help for your software problem, but try Simple-Scan, it has scan photo or text option and single page or feeder. it is a great tool to scan and you also can save you scannes as PDF.

Hope it helped ;-)

Thanks. Have used simple-scan and found it to be a good tool especially in the size of files it produces.
Gscan2pdf is usable as long as clean up images is not selected but the reason for the post is to highlight the bug which in theory was resolved in 2016 and to find out how to report it.

OK Checking out thebug reports on souceforge i found this:

Jeffrey Ratcliffe
Jeffrey Ratcliffe - 2017-08-03

The error message itself is from unpaper. gscan2pdf is simply passing it on.

gscan2pdf offers the possibility to ignore future messages like that with a check box "Don't show this message again".

If you ticked this box, and still got the message in the future, then it would be a bug. However, your log file indicates that you have either never seen that (or any other error message) before, or you have deleted your ~/.config/gscan2pdfrc file.

Please reproduce the problem, clicking the "don't show this message" box, and try to reproduce it a third time. If you still see the box, please post another log file.

Clicking the message box has resulted in the error not being shown again.
