Mpv 0.28 is not in Debian yet, but I tried building it against ffmpeg 3.4.1, which should have been good since they said 3.4 is the minimum. It failed when it wanted even newer, unreleased libraries such as libavcodec58.
It appears that Debian should have bumped the sonames of some packages when they they did ffmpeg 3.4, such as libavcodec57 to libavcodec58, along with the libraries in those packages. This is from what mpv is expecting to find along with what most other distros are naming those packages. :frown: This seems like a fairly big bug. Possibly i can work around it with mpv by just doing a version that builds its own internal ffmpeg, but I'd like to see ffmpeg fixed.

Thanks for your persistent efforts, Steven!
Hopefully mpv will get that fix and will run live streams.
And we're waiting patiently for your palemoon 27.7 to come :)

I don't see anything about the ffmpeg issue in the bug reports, and we can't submit bug reports since we aren't "real" Debian users. Maybe I can light a fire under some Debian testing users or submit something on a mailing list, though.

Ubuntu also inherits the problem from Debian.

SMTube 18.1.0 is built and uploading.

After some false starts, I got a mpv 0.28 built with the internal ffmpeg on 64-bit, and a Youtube live stream will play in SMPlayer using it as the back end. Trying to get 32-bit mpv built now.

:number1: Just tested 0.28 mpv on live streams. It works! Thank you, Steven!

Update: Bad news. live streams are still not working (either mpv or mpv+youtdl) :bawling:

Thanks for the feedback...I just think it would require libmysofa to move along with it to main if we get more positive reports.

Sigh...just had a Debian user add the MX 17 repo in order to use our backported broadcom-sta driver to build against the stretch-backports 4.14 kernel. He did that successfully, then went crazy and tried to "apt-get upgrade" everything else at once from MX. He was fortunately stopped by a repo key problem, so messaged me asking how to solve that.

Live streams seem to work if you put in the actual HLS address, like this one from the space station:

Code: Select all

Can you install qmplay2 from the repo, then hit <Ctl><U> to enter the Youtube URL, using the youtube-dl choice on that dialog? I want to double-check live streaming with that application.

Just try the short Youtube URL in qmplay2 with the youtube-dl option. The developer says that the live streams work on their build, but mine start, freeze after a few seconds, then only play for a second about every 15-20 seconds.
