For those diagnosing...

could the OP verify how the printer is connected to the router? The model number posted indicates that the printer is a wireless capable printer. Is it connected wirelessly to the network, or via usb to the router directly? what is the url in use on the existing mx16 machine?

Just realized that the prior

Code: Select all

sudo chmod -R ugo+rw media
didn't run.

When I reopened Terminal I saw an password error from sudo.

It's not recognizing my Admin password

How do I fix that, please?

I'm used to my former OS of many years. Puppy Linux, where everything runs as Root.
I preferred that for simplicity. This is a single-user computer at home.

The printer is hardwired, USB, to the Asus router.

EDIT: I did get this done

Code: Select all

sudo chmod -R ugo+rw media

Still can't see the printer.

  • sudo ufw status will tell you if it's on.
  • sudo ufw disable will drop it for testing
  • sudo ufw enable sets it back up
  • sudo ufw status verbose will list permissions.

root@mx1dad:~# ufw status
Status: inactive
root@mx1dad:~# ufw enable
Firewall is active and enabled on system startup
root@mx1dad:~# ufw status verbose
Status: active

New profiles: skip

Then it's not the ufw.

You could try hooking the printer directly to the computer via usb. If it works, you know it's not a driver problem, but somewhere in the networking.

Also, http://localhost:631/printers will give you detailed printer/cups info.

"No Printers" and when asked to look "No printers found"

Works fine directly connected. Found and used driver: STP016689.PPD for the HL-2250DN (recommended)

Can you try the printer on wireless, directly to the computer rather than as a LAN printer? This should eliminate most router weirdness.

Another idea would be to Reset the router.
