lightdm-gtk-greeter-mx16 update error

#1 Post by PhilH » Thu Jan 04, 2018 8:49 pm

I'm sure it's me, but hopefully some kind soul has a hint for me what I'm doing wrong.
Problem is that lightdm-gtk-greeter-mx16 doesn't want to update:

dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/lightdm-gtk-greeter-mx16_16.0.98_all.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf', which is also in package workbench-defaults 0.17.2mx16
dpkg-deb: error: subprocess paste was killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/lightdm-gtk-greeter-mx16_16.0.98_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I have a netbook running "MX-16_x64 Metamorphosis 12 December 2016", " MX-Workbench Kernel".
I don't know if I should try to delete lightdm-gtk-greeter and let it try to reload the correct version, or not. I don't want to break things so that I have to reload everything. The recent updates all went in without a problem. It's just the lightdm thing that sits there reminding me that there's an update needed.

Thanks,
PhilH

workbench spin is unofficial...

if that file is supplied in workbench-defaults, then you likely don't need the lightdm-gtk-greekter-mx16 at all, so it should be safe to remove.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

All gone. Thanks for the prompt reply.
Yes, this is the workbench version which I installed on the netbook for maximum portability (short of a USB install).
I used Synaptic to remove the 1.0mx16+2 version, with the result that I had a "generic" login window. Then I installed the 1.1mx15+2 version and got it to put my login name back in the login box on startup.

The support in this forum is, as usual, outstanding.

Regards,
PhilH

Now if I could figure out how to mark this as solved......
