Radio-related App Chirp OK to Install?

#1 Post by NevilsStation » Sat Dec 02, 2017 10:00 pm

For many radios used in Amateur Radio, and for other purposes, there's a free multi-platform app called CHIRP.

It's frequently updated:

http://trac.chirp.danplanet.com/chirp_daily/LATEST/

The latest update shown in Synaptic Package Manager appears to be:
-- Iain R. Learmonth <irl@debian.org> Tue, 08 Nov 2016 12:15:26 +0000
If it must be compiled, is there a way for it to auto-update, or must every new release be manually compiled?

Thanks!

Since this is a Python program, follows the debian rules about locations, has dependencies that are all available in our standard repositories, and doesn't conflict with anything else, this is one of the few cases where it is OK to add an Ubuntu PPA to MX.

You can add it in Synaptic -> Settings -> Repositories -> New

Code: Select all

Actually, I think it is telling you that you need to run MX Check APT...

Have you run the MX check apt program as stated? Because that will likely get rid of that error.

Since it shows up in Synaptic now, you should be able to install chirp-daily and you'll get the regular updates when they appear in the PPA.

So, is MX Linux now not bothered if ppas are used?
