OpenLP latest version?

#1 Postby Charley » Mon May 15, 2017 9:09 am

I needed to use the application at church but the version available was 2.04 and it doesn't work all that well on the system I set up for the church I attend.
Dell OptiPlex 790 Desktop PC - Intel Core i3-2130 3.4GHz 4GB 250GB DVDRW
But the latest one from Debian 'Testing' (stretch) works perfectly
https://packages.debian.org/stretch/openlp
I just clicked the download link, clicked "open with gdebi and away it went.
I hope this helps someone else down the road. Your mileage may vary.

Openlp 2.4.4, rebuilt from stretch, is now available in the MX-15 testing repository.

Well.
I wasn't aware that MX-15 testing was a repository for MX-16; or I would have gone that route, and 'kept my mouth shut.'
So sorry for any feathers ruffled or rules I may have bent or broken.
I'll be heading back to obscurity and off this forum now. 22 years with Linux should have taught me to build whatever I need from source and keep quiet.
Good Bye
I didn't need this distribution all that much.

I think you misunderstood me.
You didn't ruffle any feathers or break any rules.
You kindly let us know there was an application in the repositories that didn't work well and that the version in stretch did.
I rebuilt it for MX-15/MX-16 and put it in the repositories so that other MX users would have the working version readily available.

In the MX Forum, package requests can be made for more updated versions or for packages not found in Debian.

The packaging team will, if possible, package the same and then place it in the MX Test Repo for use and testing. If it's found to work well, it will eventually find its way into the MX main repos.

Check out MX Tools ==>> MX Package Installer

From there, you can access the MX Test Repo to try out all sorts of stuff you might not normally see in a Debian Stable distro.

With the fantastic packaging team, users like me who do not do our own compiling from source, can enjoy packages we would not normally have.

Sorry if we gave any offense! We just would like our more non-technical users to not get in the habit of trying to install upstream or foreign deb packages (even though gdebi takes most of the compatibility risk out of it), when we can get the packages into our own repo instead.

I hate to think what that kind of attitude will get on many other distro's forums...We're one of the nice ones, aren't we?
