Can't Config Wine

#1 Postby towwire » Sun May 14, 2017 12:32 pm

I installed Wine-Staging and Wine-Staging-amd64 from test and I don't have the other menu to config wine. I show the wine files in /opt/wine-staging but no files in my home. How do I do the config of wine?

Open a terminal & type:

Code: Select all

winecfg
That will create the hidden ~/.wine folder.

You can either run /opt/wine-staging/bin/winecfg *or* install winehq-staging whichs creates the symlinks to /usr/bin.
The reason it's not a dependency is that some people want both the stable wine & wine-staging on the same machine. I use winhq-staging - it's easier.

I did this and the winecfg came up but when I tried to test the sound it disappeared. Nothing created in my home and I could not fine what the output said it created.

Code: Select all

root@mx16Laptop:/opt/wine-staging/bin# winecfg
bash: winecfg: command not found
root@mx16Laptop:/opt/wine-staging/bin# bash winecfg
wine: created the configuration directory '/root/.wine'

Wine is not designed to be run as root. Try again as a regular user.
BTW, if you are in the /opt/wine-staging/bin directory you would normally run any executable there by prepending ./ As in ./winecfg

But normally you would run the commands from whatever folder you had the windows program in, like so:

Code: Select all

/opt/wine-staging/bin/wine setup.exe
MSI 970A-G43 MB, AMD FX-6300 (six core), 16GB RAM, GeForce 730, Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD, Seagate Barracuda XT 3TB
