[WORKAROUND] Krusader wont open iso files again

#1 Post by c4os » Wed Sep 12, 2018 5:54 am

I'd like Krusader file manager, because it opens iso files out-of-the-box.
Since yesterday it starts arc after a double klick on iso files.

Does anybody have experience with Krusader and iso files?
Or is this depending on mime types?

A small workaround would be left klick on the iso file and select "Browse Archive".
This opens the iso in Krusader.

Or try DoubleCommander, from the MX repo.
It was patterned after Total Commander many years ago. I've been using doublecmd instead for quite a few years.

Hi Richard,

thanks you're right. DoubleCommander is a good alternative. I've also been using since a couple of month. It opens iso files out-of-the-box.
But bookmarks and saved network connections on DC are more complicated as on Krusader.
Network connections on DC works only with gvfs and I need to mount the shares with Thunar or shell before. When I setup a connections with quick connection I'll get a message "Cannot open current file"!
On Krusader I can mount all share with the kio plugins and the links smb:// for windows shares, or fish:// for ssh connections, or webdavs:// for webdav web pages. Also can bookmark all connected shares by adding to bookmarks. For me a killer feature.

Yeah, bad news.
I don't use the network features much.

Krusader will probably fix the glitch with the ISO soon.
I haven't used it much since they moved to KDE
but expect them to be quick to fix the problem.

Don't forget Midnight Commander, which is pre installed, and opens ISO's out of the box.
The version which is installed in MX Linux supports:
Virtual File Systems: cpiofs, tarfs, sfs, extfs, ext2undelfs, ftpfs, sftpfs, fish
In addition smbfs might be also available, if requested from our packaging team to compile with addtional smbfs support.

Oh, that's nice. I'll try.
And I'll keep doublecmd to play around and to take a look at the development progress.

Thanks All ;)

Great. The one feature I do always tweak:
F9 -> Menu -> Options -> Panel Options -> Lynx-like motions
which gives you nice navigation using the arrow-keys (up, down, left, right)
To open within terminal just type mc
And to mention: You cannot only open ISOs, and archives just by hitting enter to open,
but also any type of package-formats like deb-packages, which I do fairly often use,
to sneak arround within deb's or extract files from.

Lynx-like motions confuses me. Left and right are one direction!
You sad "Virtual File Systems: cpiofs, tarfs, sfs, extfs, ext2undelfs, ftpfs, sftpfs, fish".
How can I choose sftpfs or fish? I tried FTP-Connection, Shell-Connection and SFTP-Link, but it wont work.
