Solved - Simplescreenrecorder installed will not open

#1 Post by mxLinuxFan » Fri Aug 17, 2018 12:16 pm

Just reinstalled MX from a snapshot. Worked awesome!
However I had installed simplescreenrecorder after I had made the snapshot and it worked great.
After the new install I went back and installed SSR to make an updated snapshot and it will not open.

My goal is to have a system that I can recover to with everything I like installed.
Looking for some guidance on how I might trouble shoot this, very new to Linux.

Thanks

that's odd...I use SSR alot.

I suggest doing an "apt-get purge simplescreenrecorder" and then "apt-get install simplescreenrecorder" from the terminal, and post any errors.

Running "simplescreenrecorder" from the terminal gives a lot of feedback with a working installation, so odds are good it would throw an informative error on a broken one, too.

When I reinstalled from my snapshoot I chose to keep the home folder.
I think this was the cause of my problems.

( totally by accident noob fix follows )
The tip to run from the terminal was misunderstood by me and I used the Run Program from the main menu...
However that worked once...2nd try no good.
I right clicked short cut, choose edit and noticed the command was- simplescreenrecorder --logfile ( I'm thinking something leftover from previous Mx Linux )
I removed logfile and WAM!! All good now.

Firefox also had issues with bookmarks which needed a refresh ( found in their help ) which created an "Old Firefox Data" folder on my desk top.
Other then that the MX snapshot is really great, just what I've been looking for in a linux distro. Now feel I can experiment, and if I really make a mess
20min and all good again!

Thanks to all once again!
