Mx Live Usb Maker

#1 Post by mithrandir » Wed May 16, 2018 3:56 am

Hi,
I'd like to clone my system on a usb key and I have tried to use Mx Live Usb Maker, but the option "Clone a running live system" is not available, I can't flag this option in the Mx Live Usb Maker's windows. Why?
Thx in advance

Are you running 'live'? That option only works in live mode.

Running "Live" means running MX-Linux from a USB stick or DVD, not running an installed system from your hard drive.

I suggest MX-Snapshot if you want to make a bootable copy of your installed system!

Ok, it was not clear for me the meaning of live, because my installed system is live too :P
ok, thanks anticapitalista and artim
So with MX-Snapshot I could create a bootable copy of my installed system while my installed system is running?

Yes you can.
would it be possible to do a snapshot only for the file system and not for the home?... Creating a different home smaller?
Edit:
I have seen now, it's possible, thanks

Perhaps section6.6 of the manual, and the linked video, might be of some help to you in understanding these things?

You can choose to include your /home stuff (bookmarks, pix, docs, etc) or not. It's sweet! Enjoy.

Hi chrispop99, that section might be of some help, but perhaps I have to read it in english, because this manual in my language has not a lot of informations:
This link works for instance: https://github.com/BitJam/live-usb-make ... /README.md
but these links do not:
http://www.mepiscommunity.org/mx-15-liv ... -boot-mode
http://www.mepiscommunity.org/mx-15-liv ... -boot-mode
http://mepiscommunity.org/wiki/help-fil ... remastercc
I will try to read the english manual, perhaps there will be more informations.
Thanks
