Help and Advice Needed Installing Official Nvidia Drivers

Post by Ebojager » Thu Jun 27, 2019 10:41 pm

I want to install the official Nvidia Drivers from nvidia.com for my GTX 1070, can someone give me step by step instructions, or send me a link to them?
Iam on MX-Linux 18.3 (14.19.0-5) XFCE 4.12.3
On another note...
A couple days ago, I tried the MX Tools Installer, but it borked my system, so Iam back now with a clean install. I had chosen the experimental 418.73 I think it was.
But not sure if the problem was the kernel problem or not. Iam scared to try the MX Nvidia Installer again.
Thanks for any help or advice.

The 390 divers from the MX Stable Repo seem to be the best for most people rather than experimental ones or those from the Nvidia website: people have broken their systems by using the drivers they got from Nvidia.

Also, search the forum and you'll find tons of threads about installing and troubleshooting Nvidia drivers and will probably find that all of the information you need has already been posted.

Please read How To Ask For Help and How to Break Your System.
MX User Manual: hold down ALT and press F1. Further information may be found in the MX Wiki.

Could you show us the output of Quick System Info from the menu here? Just cut and paste it into a message here.

Your 1070 is supported by the standard Nvidia 390.116 driver in Debian Stretch main (non-free), so you should try and choose that option first when using the installer.
