I built wireless-regdb 2018.10.24 and sent it up to the test repo ...
Thanks, will check regdb and see the kernel to switch the wifi defaults ...

Dear all,

so I finally gave up... Will try with a live iso image with a newer kernel later on. Actually I tested under Windows and saw that the stick provides ~50mbit and compared with an ancient ethernet cable I had lying around (doesn't even has the Cat level on it), which still is much faster. If I need to use the PC mobile I have the RTL8811 Wifi dongle, which works (though wonky) with the adapted driver compiled from here https://github.com/zebulon2/rtl8812au (the older drivers on github all don't compile under MX-18 / Kernerl 4.19+). The idea behind the Asus was originally that it will work OOB, without recompiling after each update.

Thank you very much for your efforts!
