MX 18: SD card and USB memory stick are not mounted

MX 18 on a HP mini 110 netbook SD will not mount a SD card or USB memory stick.

Exactly the same MX 18 system will mount both of these on a HP Pavilion dv9500.
The SD card is shown on the dv9500 as mmcblk0/mmcblk0p1 and the USB stick as sdc/sdc1.
I have tried this on both hardware also with a live MX 18 system, booted from the USB memory stick.

The latest Ubuntu 1810 mounts both SD card and USB stick automatically (live system).
Also i have tried Linux Peppermint live system, which mounts also automatically the two memory devices.
So this problem seems to be related to MX Linux 18 only, 32-bit and 64-bit.

On the HP mini 110 the USB stick is visible with GParted as /dev/sdc and /dev/sdc1, including the volume name, but cannot be mounted.

$ lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
sda 8:0 0 111,8G 0 disk
├─sda1 8:1 0 34,5G 0 part /
├─sda2 8:2 0 28,4G 0 part /home
├─sda3 8:3 0 4G 0 part [SWAP]
└─sda4 8:4 0 44,9G 0 part
sdc 8:32 1 3,8G 0 disk
└─sdc1 8:33 1 3,8G 0 part

Any ideas, why the two devices cannot be mounted on a HP Mini 110 netbook?

does the USB not show up in the file manager then? Or is there some error message?

In the file manager none of the two show up. No error message. The USB stick is flashing, obviously being accessed for a short time, after plugging in.

Can you check /var/log/syslog? The last few lines should indicate something.

Also dmesg in the terminal can give some clues.

Happy new year to everyone!!
I did some more testing with the HP mini and found some new information.
Today the 2GB SD card appears as /dev/sdb (yesterday it was not detected at all), which is also visible using GParted.
The card is still not mounted and is not visible with Thunar.

Meanwhile i found a similar problem:
https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=45566

I will try now the following solution:
add usb-storage.delay_use=5 to grub
Then reboot and reinsert the SD-card after boot.

Result: No difference.
I also noticed that the MX linux system can't be shut down completely, or restarted, if the sd card is not removed first.

I have now also tested MX Linux 18 on a HP Pavilion PC m8000, model m8180.nl-a.
On this HP desktop the SD card and USB stick are detected immediately by Windows 10 1809, Manjaro and Deepin 15.8.
Unfortunately MX Linux 18 is the only system that does not recognize and/or automatically mount the SD card.
MX Linux 18 does however does mount the USB stick, after some retries.
For some reason MX Linux 18 only can do the trick, with both USB stick and SD Card, on the HP Pavilion dv9500 laptop.
