SOLVED-mx 17.1 - problems since latest updates - UPDATED

#1 Post by jbloggs » Sat Oct 27, 2018 9:21 pm

Since last few days updates

1) no sound output even though pulse shows output levels running ok

2) Xerox/Fuji Docuprint P265DW networked printer wont print - "not connected"

network obviously is OK or PC wouldn't connect to the 'Net, and USB is OK as no problem with external USB HDD's etc.

Help please

Since last few days updates

1) no sound output even though pulse shows output levels running ok

network obviously is OK or PC wouldn't connect to the 'Net, and USB is OK as no problem with external USB HDD's etc.

Help please
1) Unmute?

2) Whisker menu > Print Settings > Printer > check Enabled? (also set default)

I've had the occasional "not connected" problem with Network printers that are specified by ip address like this one:
ipps://192.168.1.111:631/printers/Brother_MFC-7220
There is also a machine name associated with the machine it's connected to (we'll call it spot1 for this example) but no DNS entry for it. Every once in a while some update will change the entry from the above one to:
ipps://spot1.local:631/printers/Brother_MFC-7220
You can fix it permanently by adding that machine name to your /etc/hosts file, or just change the properties back to the ip address.

I've never been able to track down what causes the change...

thanks for the replies.

1) re printer - Xerox Docuprint P265dw ( Brother HL-L2360DW) laser printer.

trying to print says "not connected"

sudo arp-scan -l shows printer IP (192.168.1.5) - nothing has changed except for recent updates.

Printer Settings shows dnssd://FX%20DocuPrint%20P265%20dw._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/

2) Audio - Volume Icon /settings /Playback

set to "built-in analogue Stereo

OutPut Devices defaults to "Line Out plugged in) - no sound - change to Headphones - Audio works fine.

YES - speaker cable is plugged into correct output socket.

You might try this: First check your Printers Maintenance page is accessible
go to with a browser: http://192.168.1.5
You migh check printing from the page e.g. a status report.

Next try to use direct access using AppSocket Printer Device URI:
socket://192.168.1.5:9100
And do a test print.

Printer Settings shows dnssd://FX%20DocuPrint%20P265%20dw._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/
And if Fehlix's suggestion comes up empty, try changing the Printer Settings line from

Code: Select all

dnssd://FX%20DocuPrint%20P265%20dw._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/
to

Code: Select all

dnssd://192.168.1.5/

thanks for advice - no luck so far.

Printer does print Test page from its on-board setup so no problems with printer.

Additional note re USB - keyboard wont work/locks up on GRUB boot menu (Dual boot setup).

Will try LiveCD/DVD to boot from /sda2 (old Mint install)

Thanks
