no wifi after Suspend

#1 Post by bayou self » Mon Sep 17, 2018 6:56 pm

(Dell E6500 Latitude) Wifi works great, except resuming from Suspend. Authenticate fails. Works again after

Code: Select all

sudo service network-manager restart

Code: Select all

inxi -n
Network: Card-1: Intel 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection driver: e1000e
IF: eth0 state: down mac: 00:21:70:f4:e7:5f
Card-2: Broadcom Limited BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller driver: wl
IF: wlan0 state: up mac: 00:24:2b:c1:1c:5d

Code: Select all

sudo lshw -C network
   *-network
       description: Wireless interface
product: BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller
       vendor: Broadcom Limited
       physical id: 0
       bus info: pci@0000:0c:00.0
       logical name: wlan0
       version: 01
       serial: 00:24:2b:c1:1c:5d
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless
       configuration: broadcast=yes driver=wl0 driverversion=6.30.223.271 (r587334) ip=192.168.2.55 latency=0 multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11
       resources: irq:17 memory:f69fc000-f69fffff
Could my issue be related to tlp?

Does it work if you click on the network widget in the taskbar, then disconnect and reconnect to the access point? My laptops would have the same sympton--it would say it was connected after the resume, but no bits would come over the connection until I did that. My fix was to add the wi-fi driver module to a file that unloads it before suspend and reloads it after resume, but I don't know if that'll solve your issue.

@Stevo--it behaved exactly as you said! I disconnected with the Authentication dialog box, and reconnected with the widget on the taskbar.
Now, I would like to try that script you wrote (if you would be so kind), to see if it automates the process. Being a newbie, I would need guidance selecting the correct name of the module. Is it in the code above? "wl", maybe?

Yes, your module is called "wl". My module is "iwlwifi", so I created a new text file called "config" with these contents:

Code: Select all

SUSPEND_MODULES="iwlwifi"
and copied it to /etc/pm/config.d:

Code: Select all

sudo cp config /etc/pm/config.d
So just replace "iwlwifi" with "wl".

Make sure you have a newline after the line with text in it.
