@dolphin_oracle
sudo service network-manager restart
This did not help

OK. Thanks for the inxi output.
You have used quote-tags "

.
Please do use the code-tag </>
and paste between the code tags
paste the output here
.
Let's try another one:
Please show us the output of this command

Code: Select all

rfkill list wlan
within code-tags

please.
Thanks

EDIT: We would need the output from running MX17 for both inxi and above rfkill, please.

This is kind of a shot in the dark, but does switching to the standard Debian 4.9 kernel for MX 17 in the Package Installer make any difference? It's pretty close to the 4.7 version that was working in MX 16.

Have you looked into how expensive and troublesome it would be to replace the keyboard?

Conversely, would it be possible to assign a key combo on the wireless combo that would send the same signal as the wi-fi switch on the broken keyboard?

@Stevo
Yes, I searched ebay for weeks to find a keyboard that matched my laptop.
Unfortunately, there were neither used nor new ones.

The manufacturer of the laptop wrote me that there are no more spare parts for a 9 year old device.
He also does not know what code the keyboard sends to turn off the WLAN.
So I can't program my actually programmable keyboard with the right code.

What remains amazing for me is that MX-16.1 obviously doesn't care that the hardware switch is switched off.
It still enables WLAN.
So it can't really be a hardware-based WLAN shutdown.
regards
Karl

That appears indeed amazing. What does "rfkill list wlan" shows using MX16?
Not clear to me, are you connecting through internal "Intel WiFi" on MX16
and will the USB-wifi "Realtek RTL8187" work on MX16 too?

Would that help: Tastatur, deutsch (DE) - klassisch - für Medion Akoya P6612 (MD 97110)

@fehlix
Both WLAN receivers, the built-in laptop and the external USB receiver, work with MX-16.1.

No one works with MX-17.

Thanks for the link to the keyboard.

I am currently on holiday in Poland.
This makes everything more difficult, but MX-16.1 works as an emergency solution, thank God.
At my home in Germany I connect this Laptop to the Internet by ethernet cable.
So I did not recognize this Problem before going to Poland.

I'll contact the company after my vacation.
And once again many thanks to you for your efforts and help.
Regards
Karl
PS
Are you German?
I am.

FWIW my two desktop's USB wifi dongles respond a little differently between MX-16 and MX-17, the latter being less accommodating.

viewtopic.php?f=107&t=43411&p=428780&hi ... le#p428651 details some of my efforts to get a newer TP-Link model working, although I currently just tether my android phone to access the World Waste Whirlpool. :happy:

There are a few threads related to wifi hardware and efforts to resolve, on this forum.

On keyboards, a cheap wired one from the supermarket or relevant el cheapo store might facilitate the underlying efforts to resolve wifi and bypass laptop keyboard issues?
