It's not a matter of ram in use but rather a Cpu one. It is reaching almost 100% on the two cores. You should instead post the detail of processes in activity to understand why this is happening.

Your webbrowser is clearly eating up all your cpu power.
Did you never had these slowdown before?
Take a look at this topic: YouTube on old hardware. You may find interesting ideas on how to play Youtube videos outside your browser.

By the way the temperatures of my core are

Code: Select all

sensors
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 0: +72.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 1: +70.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

Does the browser choke the CPU when doing things other than video?

Have you tried an alternative browser?

I don't see why more RAM would make things worse, unless the RAM were defective. I believe the Grub boot menu has a MemTest option. Otherwise you can burn a boot disk for it. Or even better, substitute a different stick of RAM. Also, sometimes RAM slots are defective, so you can try a different one if it exists. Some older MBs required RAM to go into balanced slots.

Also remove unnecessary extensions, each separate chromium process is either a tab or an extension. Since it looks like a CPU issue it might not have anything to do with you adding 1GB RAM, is it slow if you don't open Chromium?

Active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list
1: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/canonical-chro ... ge/ubuntu/ xenial main
2: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/nilarimogard/webupd8/ubuntu/ xenial main
Is there an issue because he's using Chromium from a PPA? For Xenial Xerus?
Desktop: Intel i5-4460, 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics
