Intel I218 V not working

#1 Post by arkjohn5 » Tue Mar 20, 2018 9:23 am

All of a sudden with the prior newest MX16 release and now with the MX17.1 release this lan connection no longer works. It is seen in lspci but cannot be connection to.
(FYI..it works just fine in windows 10 64bit with either the 20.1 or 23.1 drivers from Intel)

Any ideas ?

Ordinarily I would suggest trying a different kernel t see if that gets it back up and running, such as the Liquorix or the standard Debian 4.9 one, but that is difficult if you don't have any connection at all. Do you have a Net connection through wireless, perhaps?

I have two LAN connectors on my MB. One is Intel mentioned and the other is Realtec. The Realtec works fine. i will try a different kernel and change the LAN to the Intel to see if that works. I will start with 4,14 and work backwards to see which works. Also.. do i need to be concerned with Meltdown and Spectre with earlier kernels ?

Thanks very much to you both

Yes, except for the last Liquorix 4.14 kernels, the stock Debian 4.9 kernel, and the latest 4.9.X antiX kernels. We have the command-line spectre-meltdown-checker in the main repo so you can install that and check the running kernel, too.

Ok.. i found what was causing the issue with the lan connection. The IO shield plate on the back of the computer case has thin metal strips separating a few of the connection sockets thee. One of those little mletal strips had come loose and bent into the lan connector socket.. After that was removed i had no issue at all.

Thanks to all that helped with advice.. Much appreciated
