wrong video display [Solved]

#1 Post by wsxian2 » Mon Sep 18, 2017 9:07 pm

I have used MX-16 for some time. I bought I new computer and installed MX-16 on it and it worked well.
I moved the computer to another room and another monitor and it just won't display anything except 800x600 which is not that good to look at.
I even reinstalled it (twice!) and it did the same thing (it was a higher resolution on the live CD!).
Display (under Settings) only shows the 800x600 default
Tried nomodeset
tried nomodest grub_gfxmode=1280x1024x24
tried i915.modeset=0
Nothing works.
My monitor is a samsung SyncMaster 213T and is capable of 1600x1200
My computer is a Dell Inspiron 3650
Help! :bawling:

Can you post the output of

Code: Select all

sudo inxi -SCG
Edit: Sorry seems like I was too slow by a minute.

Code: Select all

-SCG
provides just the System/CPU/GPU information

If you use

Code: Select all

inxi -F
it's smart to remove any MAC address and system Serial Number.

I just installed a Dell monitor and took out nomodeset in the boot grub and it's working!

Don't know why, but glad to have the higher resolution.

I got the Dell Monitor at the free store (transfer station). So I am happy.

Now I need to customize the grub....
