Programme window does not fit the monitor screen

#1

Post by Duliwi » Mon Jul 08, 2019 1:55 pm

Hello,

Here are my data:
I have an about 10 years old netbook:
Processor: Intel Atom 270N
Graphic card: Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family
RAM: 1 GB
HD: 160 GB
Screen 10.1 inch
MX Linux 18.3

In some programme the programme window does not fit into the screen.
For example when I open "libre office" (the start screen), the bottom is below the screen. It does not matter if I use "full screen" mode or not. And I am also not able to make the window smaller with the mouse.

When I then start "write" from the "libre office" start screen, it is the same. The status bar is below the screen at the bottom, although I have it activated.

But when I open "write" directly, (not through "libre office start screen"), then write (and the other) are shown as expected. The status bar is on the screen.

I made also an experience with MX Tools: Not the whole MX Tools window was displayed. The "Software" section had no place on the screen. It had now scroll bar. So I was not able to click the symbols at the bottom.
-> But here (in opposite to "libre office") I was able to make the window smaller with the mouse. At this point the scroll bar appared and I was able to reach the symbols at the bottom.

My question is:
How can I eliminate the issue with the open office start screen?

Would appreciate some help. Thank you.

Duliwi

Edit:
Once I have started "write" from the "libre office" start screen, I am not longer able to start it without this issue. When I then start "write" directly, the issue remains.

Can you please hit paste in a reply after running Quick System Info, found in MX Tools? That way we can take a better look

You cannot eliminate the issue with the Libre Office start screen.
But you can move the window up to see the bottom of the window: hold down the Alt key, left-click and push the window upwards with the track-pad.
Apart from that, you will have to accept the limitations of the netbook's screen.

Additional advice:-
The netbook's performance would be better with more RAM. Mine has 2GB.

Does anyone know if antiX handles Libre Office any better than MX?

@Eadwine Rose
It's there now. See above.

@GuiGuy
When I try this with the "libre office" start screen, then I am able to move the window, so that I can either see the top part or the bottom part. Yes, your clue is working.

But if I do the same with "writer", then I can change the version with the cut off "status bar", into a version where suddenly the whole window fits into the screen!

So my question is now:
Why sometimes "writer" is shown without the bottom and sometimes it fits the screen as it should be?
