I am unable to run the command add-apt-repository. What must I do to be able to do this?
Thanks

don't, and add your repository by editing an existing or by creating a new .list file under /etc/apt/sources.list.d

or add it via synaptic.

but if its a ppa...your on your own. those are ubuntu things and we generally try to avoid them.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

Install the software-properties-common package which contains that command.
Because I usually hear variations of this question from users of Ubuntu/Mint I'll remind you that MX is not based on Ubuntu. Adding Ubuntu PPAs can cause dependency problems when used on a non-Ubuntu based distro like MX. Of course there are useful private debian repositories out there as well.

You might find we already have the package in our main or test repositories, or that we can port it over from the PPA to make sure it's compatible. What are you trying to install?
