The specification of your machine, with regards to the CPU and RAM, make it more suitable for antiX. Even using a browser that does not need the sse2 instruction, with that little memory it will be painfully slow.

Chris
Test machines:
32-bit non-PAE - Thinkpad T41, 1.6GHz Pentium M, 1GB RAM.
32-bit PAE - DELL Latitude D610, 1.73GHz Pentium M, 2GB RAM.
64-bit - Lenovo T61, 2GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM
64-bit - Gigabyte Z77P-D3, Intel i3-3220, GeForce 8400 GS, 4GB PC3-12800.

I'm going to try the palemoon first as Dolphin_Oracle suggested, and if it works I will add more ram to the system, if it doesn't work I will try AntiX. I really love MX so I hope it works though. Thanks for your suggestion! :)

I believe firefox requires sse2 instruction set, which your process doesn't apparently support.

I think we have a non-sse2 palemoon in the repo that you can try.

Not sure about the firewall. I assume you mean the gui doesn't open? You might resort to using the cli with "ufw".
I downloaded Palemoon and it's doing the same thing as Firefox. I found the executable file and clicked on it, it tried to open with a outline flicker of the window, then disappeared. Do you have any other suggestions?

A 'special' version of PaleMoon is needed; the standard version will have the same issue as Firefox.

Last post on the link below says that the non-SSE2 version has been discontinued, and it doesn't seem that there is a version in any of our repos now, although I thought there once was.

Ok thanks for the info, I was hoping to use MX since the OS runs so good on that machine, guess I'll have to go to plan B now.

I tried palemoon, but it requires sse2 also. I had an idea to try AntiX to see if the Firefox-esr browser worked with this machine and it did, so I went to the MX stable repos and downloaded the Firefox-esr, but it keeps crashing, is there a fix for this?

You could try installing palemoon from here

https://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch/poo ... n-nonsse2/

From what I understand Palemoon is not being supported anymore, the Firefox-esr is, that's why I was trying to use it, plus it's in the MX stable repos so it should work, but it's not.

Firefox-esr still requires sse2 instruction set
http://www.youtube.com/runwiththedolphin
lenovo ThinkPad T530 - MX-18
lenovo s21e - MX-18, antiX-17.3.1 (live-USB)
FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

Firefox-esr works with AntiX on my old machine, so why does Firefox-esr not work on this machine with MX? I could install AntiX, but I rather use MX if I can get this Firefox-esr to work with it.

Btw I downloaded the latest AntiX to test the Firefox-esr browser using a live usb, when it worked I downloaded the Firefox-esr from the stable MX repos, but it crashes while loading. I do not think it's the machine that is causing this since it works with AntiX. I'm not sure, but I think that's a reasonable assumption to make right?
