RTL8811AU driver? [SOLVED]

#1

Post by handydan918 » Thu Mar 14, 2019 10:02 pm

Had to fire my ISP recently, and so I don't have any connectivity on the desktop machine.
To remedy that, I picked up a Netgear wifi dongle that the system identifies as a Realtek RTL8811AU.
lsusb shows it, as does inxi -Fxz, but from what I've been able to discover, it apparently uses it's own driver.
The only Google results I turned up were Ubu solutions, but I may have to go that ways, since they seem to be talking about downloading the driver from github and compiling it.

Any easier ideas?

Deviwiki says you've got to compile your own driver--this one's probably the one you want: https://github.com/aircrack-ng/rtl8812au

MX should already have all the packages you need to build the driver.

It looks like you should use the dkms instructions after downloading and extracting the zip file, since that should auto-rebuild for newer kernels.

That's what I thought, too.
Tried it, and it certainly threw no errors, but after a reboot, there was no sign of the driver.
Went back and did it via make/make install and it worked fine.

Anywho, thanks for the guidance.
