GRUB refuses to boot in UEFI and other issues (MX Linux 18) (SOLVED)

GRUB refuses to boot in UEFI and other issues (MX Linux 18)
Yeah I am pretty much stuck. So I recently got MX Linux 18 like, 2 days ago I think? And after setting up my partitions correctly I then proceeded to try booting the OS. I was then met with this message:

Code: Select all

error: Secure Boot forbids loading module from (hd0, gpt2)/boot/grub/x86_64efi/normal.mod.
Entering rescue mode...
grub rescue>_
I then of course tried turning off Secure Boot and rebooted the machine, only to be met with a grub menu. I guess the kernel didn't load or something.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So what now? I am pretty much lost on what to do at this point. Keep in mind I am still kinda new to Linux, GRUB, and anything UNIX in general. I started used Linux in general since the summer of 2018 so you could imagine I still don't know a lot about the system in general.

Another thing I don't get is how come when I boot distributions like Devuan (the distro I came from), and the Ubuntu flavors including Ubuntu itself works first try usually yet MX Linux is giving me fuss despite being a Debian based distro. Why do you think that is?

My hardware if this makes any difference (I know I got a shitty laptop, it's a hand-me-down):

Code: Select all

Can you run MX Tools/Quick System Info, then in this thread do a right-click paste or control-v in the Quick Reply field and post it? That will give us some information about your disk partitioning that may help us to help you.

I have only limited experience with UEFI booting, but I do know that SecureBoot needs to be disabled, and the drive you're installing to has to have a gpt partition table, not an ms-dos one, and that your EFI partition needs to be formatted as FAT32. One of the MX Gurus should be here soon and will be better able to help you. Meanwhile here are some resources which may be helpful:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLFUZ6LtqiE (a YouTube video about settings to check if having UEFI boot problems)
https://mxlinux.org/wiki/system/uefi/

Edit: are you installing to your 116GB drive ID3? If so, I'm not seeing any partitions on it. Also, if you still had SecureBoot enabled when you installed MX it may not have installed the boot files correctly to your EFI partition. You might try reinstalling with it disabled and see if it will boot now.

Currently posting from LiveUSB (technically LiveSD since I am using a USB-to-SD reader because I don't have a regular USB)
Please run from booted MXLive this command:

Code: Select all

lsblk -f
and please mount the root partition of the installed MX Linux system,
and post the content of the file /etc/fstab on that partitions.

Do also post the output of this command

Code: Select all

lsblk -f
I guess something wrong with the generated /etc/fstab,
which recently has been fixed for mmblk-mounted SD-devices . So I guess you didn't made a system update
when booted Live , and you didn't get the fix.
Please do post the text-output between code-tags :
text-output goes here
Something like ...
Open filemanegr "Thunar" click on root18.1 an the left side under devices to mount that drive,
navigate to .../etc
find fstab .. click to open with text- editor
copy paste content between code-tags :
text-output goes here
