Suddenly, RAM usage much better

#1 Post by paul1149 » Sat Oct 06, 2018 12:58 pm

A few days ago I noticed RAM usage was dramatically improved. I run 6GB of DDR2, and with two browsers going, after a while I'll be pushing 5GB in use. I have learned to watch it and to cycle Vivaldi when it gets that high, because Vivaldi will start misbehaving at that point.

But with the advent of Vivaldi 2.0, usage has dropped 1.5-2GB. The whole system is more at ease. I initially thought Vivaldi had done something different, but then I noticed that Slimjet also was using less RAM.

This has been going on for days now. Did something change on MX's side?

Not that I know of. Since both those browsers are based on Chromium, maybe they had updates that reduced the RAM requirements.

I hadn't thought of that. They are on independent development schedules, but maybe chromium incremented and both the browsers picked up on it around the same time. Thanks.
