OK...so you downloaded and are running the AppImage? (In the future, this type of information is critical and should have been in the original post)

If so, those don't pull in dependencies like a package in the apt system, so maybe you're missing the 64-bit mixer library. Uninstall the i386 version and report the results of

Code: Select all

apt policy libsdl2-mixer-2.0-0
Edit: if you are running their binaries from a tarball download, those also don't pull in required dependencies, and you'll have to install those manually in that case, too.

Hi there, I'm the Lead Developer for Red Eclipse.

As far as I'm aware, AppImages only work on compatible distributions and I am not familiar enough with MX to know the situation. The preferred method for installing Red Eclipse is the tarball download (games included with your Linux distro may be wildly out of date). The libraries you need to have installed for that are:

Code: Select all

git curl libsdl2-mixer-2.0-0 libsdl2-image-2.0-0 libsdl2-2.0-0

Hey, thanks for helping out! <waves>

I did download the Appimage because I'm l̶a̶z̶y̶ energy-efficient and it takes a few less steps to set up than a tarball, and it runs fine on my install.

MX Linux 17.1 64bit .. Installed: git curl libsdl2-mixer-2.0-0 libsdl2-image-2.0-0 libsdl2-2.0-0.
Got tarball .. redeclipse_1.6.0_nix.tar.bz2
Extracted ~/redeclipse-1.6.0
Ran: ./redeclipse.sh .. Game updated to stable.
Game ran after update and I played it for about
45 minutes. No issues.
