Red Eclipse Won't Run For Some Reason

#1 Post by grasshopper » Thu Oct 04, 2018 7:57 pm

I know this is a bit trivial in and of itself but it could point to a larger issue here, since I have never had a problem running Red Eclipse on any MX box I own, until now.

I get the following error when trying to start it : error while loading shared libraries: libSDL2_mixer-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or director

Why would this happen on this computer but not others and how can I fix this? Thanks in Advance.

If you're running 64-bit, and Red Eclipse is a 32-bit game, you probably need to install the 32-bit version of that library:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install libsdl2-mixer-2.0-0:i386

Okay, let me restate this. Red Eclipse is not a 32 bit game. It has worked on every single MX box I have, about 4 computers..without issue. this is the very first time it's ever done this and yes, all my other computers are 64 bit...

anyone?

I did this and it still generates the exact same error. Anyone?

Is this game in the repo? If it is I'll install it and give it test. I'm running on (64bit) MX 17.1 fully updated. I'll see if I get the error.

It is in the repo but not the latest version, you get that from the game website which can be googled easily.

OK, so which is it that won't work for you? Older version in the repo, or newer version from game site?
I would like to install the same version. Are you on 32/64 bit?

Newer version obviously, why would I run the old? Also, it auto-updates so it's a non-sequitur. Just grab the latest version from the red eclipse website.

there is only a 64 bit version so don't understand your question. I don't understand why this is so complicated to explain to people. I installed 17.1. A common game that has ALWAYS worked for me in MX suddenly does not. why? What is wrong with 17.1 that it causes it to not run and generate that error?

Were your other MX boxes also MX 17/17.1?

Or older MX releases (ie, 14 to 16)?
Desktop: Intel i5-4460, 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics
Clevo N130WU-based Ultrabook: Intel i7-8550U (Kaby Lake R), 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics (UEFI)
ASUS X42D laptop: AMD Phenom II, 6GB RAM, Mobility Radeon HD 5400

why dun u delete redeclipse config folder?
open root thunar > view > show hidden files > goto /home/username/ > delete ./redeclipse folder, run redecilpse.
if doesn't work try uninstall, delete ./redeclipse folder n reinstall.
