Solved - Using MX-16 - A Scanning problem

#1 Post by Topher » Mon Aug 13, 2018 2:30 pm

I have an HP Photosmart 7820. Using xsane, it recognized the device but I get the error message of: Failed to start scanning: Invalid argument. Checking the internet, I saw that there were problems with xsane with that same error message but the fix seemed to be beyond what I can do. So I tried using simplescan but it keeps putting out legal size even though I set the preference to letter size. I need help with one or the other program.

I used the crop feature with simplescan to get my documents scanned in that I needed. But that shouldn't be the normal way. What setting am I missing???

For me in simplescan the setting of paper size is set to automatic. Maybe that will help? Just throwing something up here of course.

Thank you for getting me to try changing the settings. What I got was automatic worked OK. But what blew me away was that Letter setting gave me legal size and Legal setting gave me Letter size. That obviously is just backwards!

Yup it is.. to me though it didn't matter, I never used it, didn't even know that was there.. and now at least you know it's backwards. You could try and file a bug upstream (we don't develop simplescan), but not a clue where or how ;)
