Code: Select all

dmesg | grep "Command line:"
does the job. Will put this into /etc/default/rcS and check.

I used to think that good grammar is important. Now I know that good wine is importanter.

Still doesn't work, so I've put this line

Code: Select all

echo "INIT: --- $init ---" > /run/rc_init.log
before the offending line and checked rc_init.log. Guess what? $init appears to be empty! So that grep check is never run. Tested this by

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep "Command line:" | grep -qw hush && exec >> /run/rc.log 2>&1 || true
instead of

Code: Select all

[ "$init" ] && dmesg | grep "Command line:" | grep -qw hush && exec >> /run/rc.log 2>&1 || true
and this indeed disables the boot messages.

However... I don't know whether this is a dangerous thing to do...!?!

Obviously there are quite some subtle (and probably a few not so subtle) differences between an installed system and a live system...

I don't think its dangerous, you're just hiding the messages instead of checking with the true/false init check.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

@dolphin_oracle: I take your word for it ;)

I'll mark this as solved and perhaps a hint in the Wiki might help others who want a silent live system.
