Both cards are not working, ethernet as well as wireless. The problem seems to be bigger than we thought.
I don't think that is the case here. The OP has stated that he has been getting the password prompt which indicates that the card is working. A more likely scenario is that after multiple fails the connect, the wireless card is automatically shut down by the operating system.

to OrdyChan: as I stated above the fact that you do get the password prompt indicates that your wifi card is working, however I think that this is another case where the router / modem is not staying on point long enough to complete the handshake. Here's a solution that has worked in similar situations. Access your router/ modem and change the wifi broadcast mode for the 2.4 GHz spectrum from the default "mixed mode" to "G only" and try to connect again.

That's odd. I'm now wondering if in this case a reboot of your computer is necessary.

The Users Manual, Section 3.4.1, contains various approaches to a non-working wireless, some of which have been mentioned in this thread. It ranges from asking whether a firewall is present or a hardware switch is off (you can use MX Network Assistant to deal with this), to acquiring more detailed information with which to follow specific steps that are spelled out.

The root command

Code: Select all

iwconfig
can provide useful info, for instance.
Production: 4.15.0-1-amd64, MX-17.1, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 8 GB, Kingston SSD 120 GB and WesternDigital 1TB
Testing: AAO 722: 4.15.0-1-386. MX-17.1, AMD C-60 APU, 4 GB

Just a long-shot suggestion, but have you checked that your keyboard default is what you think it is?...I had a situation once, where it defaulted from 102 key to 105 key, and consequently, some of the characters I used in my password were not what I thought they were. It took a bit of head scratching before I figured out what had happened..

there should be a simple solution, post those distro(s) tat works for u. also post their wifi driver(s) and network manager(s), maybe mx dev(s) can look into it and incorporate for the best solution(s). at present, none of us know(s) what is the cause(s), guessing and blindly trying to help u.
MX-17.1_x64 Horizon, G41M-P33 Combo(MS-7592), Pentium E5400 (min/max: 1203/2700 MHz), 8Gb RAM (800 MT/s),
Intel 4 Series Integrated Graphics, Realtek PCIe Fast RTL8101/2/6E, PCI Gigabit RTL8169 Ethernets.
